The Pontifical Swiss Guard Ceremony at the Vatican Pope Julius II founded the Swiss Guard on 22 January 1506 for his personal protection. The Guard consists of 110 officers and soldiers. Every year, up to 30 new recruits are sworn as Swiss Guards. The recruits have to be unmarried males, practicing Catholic and of Swiss citizenship. They must have also served in the Swiss army. They may not be less than 174 centimeters tall or older than 30 years old. They must have also completed vocational training. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ceremonia de a Guardia Suiza Pontificia en el Vaticano El Papa Julio II fundó la Guardia Suiza el 22 de enero 1506 para su protección personal. La Guardia consta de 110 oficiales y soldados. Todos los años hasta 30 nuevos reclutas son juramentados como Guardias Suizos. Los reclutas deben ser varones solteros, católicos prácticos, de nacionalidad suiza y hayan servido en el ejército suizo. No pueden tener menos de 174 centímetros de estatura o más de 30 años de edad.
