Austerity: Pope Francis’ emphasis on poverty has resulted in a new austerity in the Vatican according to Thomas Williams on breitbart.com. He quotes Luciano Ghezzi who sells clerical wear in the centre of Rome: “I know the bishop of Santo Domingo well. He has a wardrobe full of crazy miters. But he told me that now he is ashamed to wear that sumptuous headgear.” The archbishop of Santo Domingo is Cardinal Nicolás de Jesús López Rodríguez.

Opus Dei: Pope Francis has named 64-year-old auxiliary bishop of Caracas Fernando José Castro Aguayo, the new bishop of Margarita, an 80 kilometres long island belonging to Venezuela. Castro is a civil engineer and was ordained in 1984 as a priest of the Opus Dei.

No Morals: Democratic senators in the U.S. have blocked a bill that would strip the abortion provider Planned Parenthood of federal funding. Planned Parenthood is the largest baby killer of the country. The bill was introduced last week following the release of undercover videos showing how Planned Parenthood tries to sell corpses of murdered babies. Iowa Senator Joni Ernst, a Lutheran who sponsored the bill, said on the floor that the videos have “shaken the moral compass of our society.”

Antireligious Hatred: The Conservative British MP, Mark Spencer, calls to ban teachers from telling pupils that gay pseudo-marriage is wrong. Spencer wants to enforce this through so called Extremism Disruption Orders who were originally introduced by the Conservative government to crack down on alleged Islamic hate speech. According to Spencer the belief that homosex pseudo-marriage is a sin could constitute "hate speech".
