Benedict XVI: respect for life and appreciation the Guatemalan government's commitment.

In his speech addressed to the Acise Valladares Molina, the new ambassador of Guatemala to
the Holy See, Pope Benedict XVI spoke of the need to respect
life. The Pope noted the vitality and faith of the people of Guatemala and
emphasized the positive commitment of the authorities to counter the serious
social problems of the country, by promoting cooperation and dialogue, with
concrete measures to combat corruption and lawlessness. Benedict XVI
mentioned that these months commemorate the 25 years since the first visit of John
Paul II to the Central American country and referred to the recent speech addressed
to the Bishops at the Ad Limina visit, reiterating that the Church is committed at its very core to
evangelization and human development.
