Without God, society loses its soul. The Pope reiterated this in a speech to the new German ambassador to the Holy See who presented his credentials today. Inspired by the rich Christian tradition of the country, and forthcoming beatifications, Benedict XVI noted that switching from faith in the God of Jesus to a vague syncretic belief impoverishes society. Social action is weakened because it is subject to personal, economic and financial interests. Benedict XVI reiterated that society is weakened when the principle of marriage as a sacrament and a union between a man and a woman is not upheld.
