MAY 16 - THE GOSPEL

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 17,20-26.
Lifting up his eyes to heaven, Jesus prayed saying: "I pray not only for them, but also for those who will believe in me through their word,
so that they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may be in us, that the world may believe that you sent me.
And I have given them the glory you gave me, so that they may be one, as we are one,
I in them and you in me, that they may be brought to perfection as one, that the world may know that you sent me, and that you loved them even as you loved me.
Father, they are your gift to me. I wish that where I am they also may be with me, that they may see my glory that you gave me, because you loved me before the foundation of the world.
Righteous Father, the world also does not know you, but I know you, and they know that you sent me.
I made known to them your name and I will make it known, that the love with which you loved me may be in them and I in them."

May they contemplate my glory
You Who are with the Father and with us.
Who also provided for us the light of your immaculate glory.
Now also provide that the light be inseparable, Saviour,
give for me always to reflect You through it, Logos,
and to understand well your impossible beauty,
which is unknowable to absolutely everyone,
it frightens my mind, and drives out my wits,
and ignites a fire of your love in my heart!
When this fire becomes a flame of divine desire
it shows to me more clearly your glory, my God.
Prostrating myself to worship this glory, I ask You, Son of God, give
both now and in the future for me to have it perpetually,
and through this glory to look upon You, God, eternally!
Yes, O Sympathetic Shepherd, Good, and Meek, (Jn 10:11)
Who wants all who have faith in You to be saved, (1Tm 2:4)
have mercy, give ear to this my prayer:
May You not be angered, may You not turn your face from me, (Ps 26:9)
but teach me to fulfil your will! (Ps 142:10)
For I do not seek that my will be done,
Life of all, and light of all who love You,
and, Benevolent One, Who are loved very much by You!
Set me among them, Master, and render me
a participant and co-heir of your divine glory.
