20 Years Extraordinary Form

USA

Yesterday, bishop Salvatore Cordileone of Oakland, offered a Pontifical Solemn High Mass at the local St. Margaret Mary Church, an apostolate of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest. The occasion was the 20th anniversary of the first Indult Mass celebrated at this church in 1989. This was the first California church to offer the old Mass every Sunday under the indult granted by Pope John Paul II. In 2005, the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest was invited to the Oakland diocese. Under the Institute’s care, not only is the Traditional Mass offered on Sundays, but daily as well, and all sacraments administered according to the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite.

Inspiration for Catholics

USA

Catholic Heroes of the Faith present “The Story of Saint Perpetua”, a riveting, true account of a young woman whose faith and eventual martyrdom has left a lasting impression throughout the centuries. This is the first episode of a new animated series that is meant to inspire Catholic youth to respond with fearless courage and unselfish love in the midst of a godless culture. According to the review on the United States Catholic Council of Bishop’s website, “this is an uplifting half-hour animated dramatization of the arrest, imprisonment and martyrdom of saints Perpetua in the North African city of Carthage circa 203 AD”

True Wisdom as Opposed to False Wisdom

Vatican

Before Sunday’s Angelus in the courtyard of Castel Gandolfo’s apostolic palace, Pope Benedict XVI turned to the day’s reading of the Letter of James. St James "describes true wisdom in contrast to that which is false," the Holy Father explained. "While the latter is ‘earthly, material and diabolic’ and recognized by the fact that it provokes jealousy, disputes, disorder and every sort of bad action, on the contrary, the wisdom that comes from on high is above all pure, peaceful, tame, compliant, full of mercy and of good fruits, impartial and sincere." The Pontiff added that wisdom "has no need to impose itself by force because it possesses the invincible vigor of truth and love, taking hold by itself.”
