Histoire d'Amour-Prussian occupation of Alencon.

In this segment of "Une Histoire d'Amour" Bl. Zelie Martin, mother of St. Therese, writes on January 17, 1871 (Correspondance familiale CF 64) to her sister-in-law Celine Guerin about the occupation of Alencon by the Prussians, 25,000 of them. Cannons can be heard on three different roads and Zelie laments the poor wounded French soldiers returning covered in blood.

The city has been taken over, the telegraph and train lines have been cut off, and the Martins are obliged to quarter Prussian soldiers. Zelie describes the enormous amounts of meat the Prussians bring her to cook, enough for 30 persons and says they eat everything without bread. Zelie writes that all lines of communication have been cut off including the telegraph.

This play took place on Oct 19, 2008, beatification Sunday in the Basilica of St. Therese in Lisieux, France.
