Francis Helps “Gay Marriage”: Twice, the Illinois House of Representatives failed to pass a gay marriage bill but on Tuesday it was accepted. Pope Francis’ gay comments have played a small but significant role in passing the bill according to ‘The Christian Science Monitor’. One Catholic lawmaker, Linda Chapa LaVia, and the Catholic Speaker of the House Michael Madigan used the pope's words as a reason for supporting the bill. Madigan even personally helped persuade at least five legislators to support it. The bill passed, 61 to 54.
