Benevolent Contradictions: The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith has appointed bishop Bernard Fellay, the Superior General of the Society of St. Pius X to be the first-instance trial judge in the case against a priest of his Society who is accused of a crime after the SSPX made recourse to Rome in this matter. Fellay announced this himself in May during a sermon in Arcadia, California. He presented this as an example of the “contradictions” in the Holy See’s approach to the Fraternity. The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith considers this instead to be a sign of benevolence.
