Demon in the Dome.
On Mai 27 the rector of St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna blessed a controversial bust of Sr Restituta Kafka who was murdered by the Nazis during Second World War and declared blessed by Pope John Paul II.
The bust was produced by the Austrian artist Alfred Hrdlicka. He is an atheist and describes himself as a "Stalinist".
Hrdlicka was personally commissioned by Cardinal Christoph Schoenborn of Vienna to produce the sculpture.

Hummmm..... it does represent rather successfully the horror of her martyrdom (graphically!). Isn't this what sacred art is supposed to do - convey visually the text of its subject's life? She WAS murdered for her faith - nothing soft, polite, cozy and aesthetically comforting! Hummmm..... 👌
