Last night at the 40 Days for Life Closing Rally, my good friend and sidewalk counsellor Doris G happened to mention in passing the passage where Mary anointed Jesus’s feet with “costly oil”. She went on to say that the cost of that oil was almost a year’s wages. I found that rather astounding, but I did some fact checking and apparently it’s true. A day wage for a labourer in that time was a denarius. Therefore, three hundred denarii is almost one year’s full wages! Let’s bring up the passage here and consider the implications of it:
Mary took a pound of costly ointment of pure nard and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the ointment. But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples (he who was to betray him), said, “Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?” This he said, not that he cared for the poor but because he was a thief, and as he had the money box he used to take what was …More

Do Not Reduce The Faith to 'Moralistic' Ideology, Pope Warns

Rome, Italy, Oct 17, 2013 / 09:12 am (CNA/EWTN News).- During his daily Mass homily Pope Francis reflected on the dangers of following one's own personal, “moralistic” ideology, stressing the importance of prayer in staying open to God.
If a Christian “becomes a disciple of ideology,” noted Pope Francis during his Oct. 17 daily Mass, “he has lost the faith.”
Pope Francis offered his words to those who were gathered with him in the chapel at the Vatican’s Santa Marta guesthouse, warning them against acting as if the “key is in (their) pocket, and the door closed.”
The Holy Father reiterated Jesus' words to the scholars in the day’s Gospel, taken from Luke, in which he tells them that they have taken the key of knowledge, reflecting that in this scene Jesus speaks to us about the “image of the lock.”
It is, he said, “the image of those Christians who have the key in their hand, but take it away, without opening the door,” and who “keep the door closed.”
Asking those present how a Christian …More

And Jesus said "Go and sin no more". Jesus had indeed tended to the needs of the offending woman. But, without knowledge of what "sin" is by the woman, Jesus could not have expressed his imperative of "sin no more". Take that away, and we have a man, named Jesus, who kindly turns and therapeutically aids or peps up, someone very bothred with the said someone's problems. That, every good therapist does. A good therapist will not enter into moral judgments, nor is it his duty. Without moral judgments at some point and in some manner, Jesus as Pope Francis preaches is, in the last analysis, nothing more and nothing less than a good therapist and, alas, a faulty incarnation of God. Actually, the pope has shown the Obama approach to "evil" (ignore it, but be nice).

I really do not understand what he is getting at or who he is talking about, why not drop the " romanita " and be specific. I am trying so hard and praying daily for Pope Francis, but to be honest my guard is up. What would St Pius X say about Pope Francis I wonder? That thought has crossed my mind a few times lately.......

Vatican City, Oct 1, 2013 / 05:39 am (CNA/EWTN News).- In a recent interview, Pope Francis shared a mystical experience he had shortly before accepting the role as Bishop of Rome and also touched on several issues surrounding Church reform.
The Pope recounted his experience during a Sept. 24 interview with Eugenio Scalfari of the Italian newspaper La Repubblica which was published on Oct.1.
When asked if he considered himself a mystic, the Pope replied “What do you think?”
Scalfari replied that no, he did not believe Pope Francis was the type. When he asked the Holy Father if he had ever had a mystical experience, the pontiff replied that he “rarely” has, but that one such experience did take place during the conclave shortly before he accepted his election as Pope.
“Before the acceptance, I asked to be able to retire for some minutes in the room next to that with the balcony on the square. My head was completely empty and a great anxiety invaded me,” he said.
“To make it pass and to …More

A Catholic religious order, the Little Sisters of the Poor, has filed a lawsuit against the Obama administration asking the courts to protect them from being forced to comply with the HHS abortion mandate. The mandate compels religious groups to pay for birth control and drugs that may cause abortions.
Yesterday, the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty filed a lawsuit on behalf of the Little Sisters of the Poor, a religious order of Sisters dedicate to caring for the elderly poor. Without relief, the Little Sisters face millions of dollars in IRS fines because they cannot comply with the government's mandate that they give their employees free access to contraception, sterilization, and abortion-inducing drugs.
The Little Sisters are joined by their religious health benefits providers, Christian Brothers Services and Christian Brothers Employee Benefits Trust, and a class of other religious organizations facinf similar fines, in the first class action lawsuit against the mandate.

Cardinal Pell recently said Pope Francis' popularity with the press was, "too good to last." That may come sooner than we all thought. This may send shock waves through the secular media and the dissenting wing of the Church who still don't understand Pope Francis, or that mercy and charity often involve discipline.
Pope Francis just excommunicated a priest in Melbourne.
From The Age in Australia: (Edit - this is quoted text and I'm sure part of it is in error, in particular, when it suggests he was disciplined for support for 'gays.' One doesn't get disciplined for supporting people with SSA but that support does not include affirming people in engaging in any sexual activity outside the context of Sacramental Marriage.
Dissident priest Greg Reynolds has been both defrocked and excommunicated over his support for women priests and gays - the first person ever excommunicated in Melbourne, he believes.
The order comes direct from the Vatican, not at the request of Melbourne …

In 1985, there were 285 frozen embryos in the nation. Now, 400,000 to 600,000 human embryos live as souls on ice, carefully held in liquid-nitrogen tanks.
Baby Liam Burke is just learning to crawl. But he was conceived when Bill Clinton was president, the World Trade Center stood tall and home computers had the newfound ability to dial into something called the World Wide Web.
Suspended 19 years in deep freeze, Liam is the beloved new son of Kelly Burke -- and one of the oldest embryos ever thawed and restored to life.
"He is the most awesome baby there is," said Burke, 45. "He is a happy, healthy baby, a little bundle of joy, smart and interactive."
What's more intriguing, Liam is adopted. An Oregon couple who had twins two decades ago through the Reproductive Science Center in San Ramon, Calif., kept his embryo frozen for years, keeping open the option of expanding their family. Ultimately, they decided to donate the embryo to Burke for her pregnancy …More

(Sept 13, 2013)
Archbishop John Nienstedt blames the devil:
The devil be damned. First he created sodomy, abortion, contraception and pornography as forces of societal destruction. Now he has dissolved marriage.
At least that's the way John Nienstedt, the Archbishop of Minneapolis and St. Paul, sees things. On Aug, 2, one day after the state started issuing marriage licenses to gay couples, he uttered these words at the Napa Institute:
"The source of these machinations is none other than the Father of Lies. Satan knows all too well the value that family contributes to the fabric of the good, as well as through the future of God's work on earth."
No surprise here. Nienstedt has been saying these things for years.
