The excuse used to end the Mass was the retirement of Father Anthony J. Manuppella. The priest who has taken over as an administrator knows how to say the Roman rite, but lacks permission to celebrate. Instead, he offers a Sunday noon Novus Ordo in Latin, celebrated ad orientem. According to parishioners and blog posts, Bishop Williams did not renew the permission required for the Mass to continue.
