Study shows why young Catholics leave the church

Did we even need a survey? I taught catechism to 6th graders. I thought everyone watched the Ten Commandments, the movie. Nothing is being passed down in the families. Believe me, the curriculim was full of silly games. I could not find any foundation with these 12 year old kids. There was nothing to build on. I was so sad. They never heard of Fatima, and Ash Wednesday was not a thought, because it happened to be during “ Winter Break”, and their parents have to take them out of town to Disney or a Ski Resort. Staying home and going to church and keeping Lent holy...it is not a part of anyone’s formation. My kids have been greatly affected, because the culture does not support anything Catholic. It’s a struggle, only the Good Lord can fix it. It is so far gone. I so mourn the days, when Friday’s during lent felt special. I have tried to pass on the faith. I have tried to teach the faith. I have tried to copy the love of what I felt in my family as we celebrated and practiced our faith. But our children have been robbed. Thanks to the reality shows, smart phones and all things electronic,Organized sports and Obsessing over school accolades have given our kids a narcissistic personality. Let us pray for those who choose to participate in lessor deeds and activities, than spending time in faith and with God.
