Peter Hinze, 57, the socialist mayor of Emmerich, Germany, is about to stage a gay pseudo-marriage with his pal Hubertus Pooth on September 30.
The Rheinische Post writes that they will subsequently gather with their guests in the Catholic church in Bislich, where Father Stefan Sühling plans to bless the spectacle. Sühling is a Canon of the Cathedral of Münster diocese.
Hinze, a divorced father of a son, is not a faithful Christian but he wants to use the show to send a message "to change the Church".
