Japan's de facto "pregnancy rota"

Not unlike many other countries, Japan's population is shrinking and therefore (this is not rocket science) their workforce is also plummeting.

What seems unique to Japan is the oppressive unspoken expectation of an [illegal] pregnancy rotation for working women.

This bizarre non-solution has led some women to feel they should apologize to their employer if they get pregnant without having asked permission and other women to feel pressured to get pregnant when it comes "their turn".
