Exclusive: Inside sources provide new info on priest censured for denying lesbian Communion

GAITHERSBURG, MD, March 1, 2012 (LifeSiteNews) - In the wake of international press coverage of a priest’s decision to deny a lesbian communion, and the woman’s subsequent demands that he be removed from the parish, a source close to the incident contacted LifeSiteNews with new information that he says will set the record straight.

Among other things, the new information indicates that the woman did actually receive Communion at the Mass – but from an Extraordinary minister rather than the priest.

Fr. Marcel Guarnizo of St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Gaithersburg, Maryland, was reprimanded by the Archdiocese of Washington this week after denying communion to Johnson at her mother’s funeral. Johnson had informed the priest before the Mass that she was a lesbian, and was denied communion when she presented herself in line.

LifeSiteNews spoke today with Diego von Stauffenberg, a source who is close to the incident and who revealed detailed information about the nature of Fr. Guarnizo’s actions at the funeral. According to Stauffenberg the priest was confronted by Johnson for the first time moments before Mass began.

She was reportedly agitated by the fact that the funeral was being presided over by Fr. Guarnizo, who is well known for his outspoken defense of Church teachings.

The priest has been on the front lines of local pro-life activism, leading prayer vigils at Dr. LeRoy Carhart’s late term abortion facility in Germantown.

The priest proceeded with the Mass, but decided to remind the congregation before Communion of what is required to be properly disposed to receive. Stauffenberg reports that when Johnson approached for Communion anyway, Fr. Guarnizo turned her away in a manner so discreet that the Extraordinary Minister standing a few feet away did not know what had occurred.

Johnson then crossed over to the Extraordinary minister’s line and was given communion.

I love it! "Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition"! In this spiritual battle between the Homo's and the church I say NO MERCY in debating with them! They have hurt society and the church so much now that we Christians have an obligation to diminish every aspect of their godless lifestyles.

Cannoli - Nope. But I'm all for holy Italians. Especially ones born before 1962.

Just so you know, though, not everyone who isn't ready to pick up their machine gun is a modernist.
Rhemes - Don't get me wrong... I'm all for correcting these things, and publicly. I'm just not for verbal lynching of anyone by the laity. The Church certainly ought to stand up and support the clergy who take a stand to defend Our Eucharistic Lord from profanation by public sinners. There is no question about it.

My only "problem" is that these days people are SO indignant (even if justly), that they seem to loose sight of charity. We can clamor (and we should) for the Church to defend Our … [더보기]

You're straying from the topic slightly but no problem.

Our Lady wasn't a modernist, and she armed us with the Rosary.

Not relevant to the subject of this thread. She, of course, was not a modernist but you are.

"Give me an army saying the Rosary and I will conquer the world." Pope Pius IX

Our Lady wasn't a modernist, and she armed us with the Rosary. It has proven to be a most effective weapon any time it is employed by men of faith. Our Lady has promised that one day God will, by it and the scapular, save the world. Of course, some men wouldn't believe the mother of God, unless she appeared to them personally. (And most likely not even then.)

Here are some other very traditional, non-modernist things:

"Who is going to save our Church?
Not our bishops,
not our priests and religious.
It is up to you, the people.
You have the mind, the eyes, the ears
to Save the Church.
Your mission is to see that your
priests act like priests,
your bishops like bishops and
your religious act like religious."

(Bishop Fulton Sheen)

Seems we need to keep reminding some priests to put their Collar on.

But if they choose not to wear it because they want to mingle in the public crowd...how on earth is anyone to …

St. Therese knew of a hardened criminal going to the gallows unrepentant. She prayed for him, and at the last moment the man converted.

Anecdotal and another case that is impossible to prove.

Without condemnation. Sr. Josefa Menendez suffered the very fires of hell to convert sinners. She never sent them letters from her convent, calling them names, however.

It wasn't her business to do so. This is no longer the beginning of the 20th century. Today she might be writing letters to priests, … [더보기]

An amusing hypothetical but impossible to prove firstly in finding “a convent full of holy traditional nuns.”
Good luck with that.

You can swear at and condemn the one..

Nobody is swearing at your dears unless you foolishly claim that Our Lord, St. John the Baptist, St. Paul, St. Bernard, Aquinas etc were also “swearing” when they used harsh words against their enemies and the enemies of the faith.

p.s. Can you make Pasta alle Melanzane? Just askin'

Give me two hardened sinners and a convent full of holy traditional nuns. You can swear at and condemn the one sinner, and the sisters can pray for the other without saying a word about them or to them otherwise, and we'll see which one converts first.

by legitimate authorities

Who are “legitimate authorities.” Are Catholic hierarchy ”legitimate authorities.”

Don't hold your breath waiting for them to condemn her or any homosexual's behavior. Look at the way the “”legitimate authorities” in the Archdiocese of Washington threw Fr. Marcel Guarnizo under the bus choosing to believe and apologize to this lesbian rather than to their own priest.

Personal, negative remarks are a sign of hatred, and reflect an inner spirit of animosity that goes … [더보기]
I can agree wholeheartedly that her actions should be condemned (by legitimate authorities) without name calling. Every sinner is a "dirty rotten Judas, selling out Our Lord for the price of whatever their sin got them". But do we really need to go around pouring that kind of hatred on one another? Is that really going to fix anything? Nope. Save souls? Nope. Work justice? Nope. Serve pride? Bet your bottom.

Absolutely it's reprehensible. It's doubly reprehensible that the priest isn't hailed … [더보기]
I think when a person as such as this lesbian sicko places herself in the spot-light and demands a priest to step-down because of her gross and twisted moral ways she opens herself to ridicule. Its are Christian duty to bring this woman down! Don't be fooled its the devils trick to fall for tolerating this sicko! Holy Cannoli you are right this vial creature needs to be scorned! Yes we are to love her as a human being but her actions are to be punished. One of her actions is looking like a man and I for one think its hideous! How dare she go after a priest of God! She is a disgusting creature!

This hateful creature OUGHT to be scorned. This hateful creature OUGHT to be rebuked. This women OUGHT to be exposed as a liar and a fraud. This despicable, vicious, hateful creature OUGHT to be seen as a vindictive militant lesbian who is out to destroy a holy priest. For her own sake, this hateful creature OUGHT to be told she is on a path straight to perdition unless she repents, makes restitution and forsakes her habitual sin.

However, you “hate the sin, love the sinner” types will never … [더보기]
Well, I should hope that each of us remembers to treat (and speak of) even the worst sinners as Our Lord would want them spoken of. (I say not, "as we would want to be spoken of," because we can then dismiss our uncharitable attitudes on the grounds we'd want others to treat us the same way if we were the sinner).

Obviously, this is one of those heinous sins that is utterly galling, but we also ought to remember... Our Lord bears no hatred for sinners. Only the sin. We ought to walk in His … [더보기]
Thanks Filomena! I was hoping it was the Lesbian because she/he looks really disturbing!
You can tell she is a man hater!
Wouldn't want her around me.

Hard to say...after seeing some 'priests' here on GloriaTV without a collar.
Is the above picture the Priest or the deranged Lesbian sicko? Thats the problem with lesbians you can't tell sometimes what the heck they are? Anyway the above picture looks like a man?
I applaud Fr. Marcel Guarnizo for taking an unpopular stand and defending our Church against radical lesbians. Two points: 1. this is another example why Extraordinary Ministers are not qualified to distribute communion. They are not trained in Cannon Law which states, Those who obstinately persist in manifest grave sin are not to be admitted to Holy Communion Canon 915 - and yes I used the net to search this out. 2. Shame on you "Archbishop" Donald Wuerl for not supporting your priest. Do everyone a favor and get a backbone.
Comments from Free Republic:

For those who have been following this story, here's confirmation of the version of events as related by several sources very close to the issue.

This is not the first time in his year at St John Neumann that Father Marcel has drawn the disapproval of local homosexuals.

Last fall he delivered some lengthy, closely-reasoned, compassionate, but firm homilies in which he clearly stated that homosexuality is a disordered condition. Many did not like hearing this.
