Pell Witch Trial: "Total Astonishment" Over Bogus Conviction

There was a “total astonishment” in the court-room after a Melbourne jury convicted Cardinal George Pell on December 11, LifeSiteNews.com reported.

Those present in the court-room spoke of a “terrible injustice” as the prosecution presented only a single complainer and no other evidence.

Pell is alleged of having abused two choir boy during official functions in Melbourne Cathedral in 1997 although location and circumstances make it impossible that this could have taken place. Pell was not living near the cathedral.

The senseless accusations were first circulated by Louise Milligan in her book "Cardinal: The Rise and Fall of George Pell" which the prestigious literary critic Peter Craven called "a 384-page attempt at a self-fulfilling prophecy" and "a case being mounted for a witch trial".

Angela Shanahan, a columnist for The Australian, wrote that the media witch-hunt against Cardinal Pell will "never allow him to get a fair trial" adding that "any real evidence of wrongdoing has long become a secondary consideration to the vibe".

Amanda Vanstone, a former Australian ambassador to the Vatican, called the media frenzy surrounding Pell on in May 2017 "the lowest point in civil discourse in my lifetime" and "no better than a lynch mob from the dark ages."

Pell's sentencing is due in February 2019. He is looking at a jail time up to 14 years. Only after sentencing he is allowed to appeal merely on technicality.

A second trial known as “the swimmers trial” will start in early 2019. Pell is accused of having “sexually offended” two boys while playing games in a public and monitored swimming pool over forty years ago.
