Amazonian Synod Goes Witchcraft, “Pagan Rituals To Fight Evil Spirits”

The working document of the Amazonian Synod does not start with Christian Revelation (bible and tradition) but calls the Amazon geographical and cultural area a “privileged interlocutor” and a “source of God’s revelation”, criticises Chilean author José Antonio Ureta on edwardpentin.co.uk (June 19).

Ureta points out that according to the document, the Church should include pagan or pantheistic elements such as “relations with ancestors,” “communion and harmony with the earth” and connection with “the various spiritual forces”.

The document believes that indigenous rituals and ceremonies “protect life from the evils”.

This kind of terminology in Church documents is getting frightening. No amount of "what they really mean is" will excuse open endorsements of paganism.

To the best of my understanding of our Catholic faith, the following are incontrovertible:
A.) Catholics do not have spiritual "relations with ancestors." Catholics may pray for their ancestors, have Mass said for them, and obtain various Indulgencies on their behalf. Our ancestors are either in Heaven, in Purgatory, or Hell. They aren't flittering around the earth.

B.) Catholics have direct spiritual contact i.e. "communion and harmony" only with God. The earth is not a sentient being and it is not conscious. The earth was given to humanity by God to live upon and use.

C.) There are no "various spiritual forces". All sources of "spirit" not explicitly of God are fraudulent counterfeits manufactured by the Devil.

D.) Indigenous rituals and ceremonies do not seek the intercession or favor from God. Consequently, the only other source of spirit that would ever answer their call is the Devil.

E.) Such pagan satanic rituals don't protect life from anything. Paradoxically, "evil" Western medicine and civilization gives people a longer life-span and better physical protection from common diseases than any indigenous witch-doctor's masquerading.

There is something terribly wrong in The Church when the Vicar of Christ is joyously accepting "blessings" from pagan shamans.
