Liberal Bishops undermine their authority by demanding obedience to false teachings and violations of the moral law, Cardinal Gerhard Müller wrote in a statement on LifeSiteNews.com (December 12).
Müller mentions as an example Protestant Communion introduced in Germany with a “theologically defective” document. “The [liberal] German bishops clearly overstepped their magisterial competence.”
The cardinal defines liberals as lenient, indifferent and relativistic toward doctrine, “However, they act in a hyper-authoritarian manner toward orthodox Catholics and can only implement threats and punishments.”
Therefore a priest can “certainly not be bound by any episcopal order” to commit an act against the sacramental order of the Church, Müller adds.
