Philadelphia Archbishop Charles Chaput admitted in a letter to a faithful of having no direct authority over the Catholic Villanova University, which is based in his archdiocese. Therefore he could not cancel a speech on May 19th by Michael Bloomberg, the former New York mayor, an abortion advocate, ChurchMilitant.com reports.
Chaput writes that he is the competent ecclesiastical authority "in some sense”. He adds, however, that it is for him “very difficult to intervene in any serious way”, explaining that “we lost this battle a long time ago when the bishops refused to put any punch behind the American application of Ex Corde Ecclesiae.”
Ex Corde Ecclesiae is an apostolic constitution issued by John Paul II in 1990 regarding Catholic universities.

These universities are in disobedience against the doctrine of the Church, they are not Catholics they are apostates and they must be sued to use a name that does not belong to them and against which they rebel.

True, they lost the battle but the tragic part is that they won't remedy it by getting back to tradition. They just throw their hands us and say,"What can you do"?

It seems this is specifically addressing the desire to cancel a particular speech. Let's not throw Chaput under the bus! He's one of the most outspoken archbishops I know in the US and I'm gratefu for his leadership.

There are options available for the archbishop but instead he throws his hands up and surrenders saying that for him it is “very difficult to intervene in any serious way.” No guts!

American bishops have no direct authority over President Donald Trump, either; yet that doesn't stop them from making dozens of officials statements condemning his immigration policy or even calling for Catholics to "become disruptors."

Why can't bishops contact the presidents of Catholic colleges, as well as meet with them privately, to discuss their concerns about the loss of Catholic identity at these institutions that bear the Catholic name? If nothing is done, what stops bishops from then making their concerns about these institutions public?

Bishops have no trouble speaking up about social justice issues. Are there any bishops, however, speaking up about the scandal being given at Catholic universities that are more Catholic in name than in practice?

What's to stop him preaching the Gospel truths himself. He should preach at the University, if he is blocked he could stand outside and preach. Why have we got cowards for our leaders, the answer is :-
Bad priests are a sign of God’s anger

‘THE MOST EVIDENT MARK of God’s anger and the most terrible castigation He can inflict upon the world are manifested when He permits His people to fall into the hands of clerics’ who are priests more in name than in deed, priests who practice the cruelty of ravening wolves rather than the charity and affection of devoted shepherds. We need to pray the Rosary every day and make the first five Saturdays for the Consecration of Russia, this is the only way for grace to return to the Church

How can he have no direct authority when he is the "ecclesiastical authority" of the university? He can surely take charge and rally support, etc. A bishop's hands are never tied unless he wants it to be! Where is real leadership to guide the faithful? Shameful!
