New EU-Recommendation Threatens Upload-Platforms Like Gloria.tv

On March 1, the European Union published a “Recommendation on measures to effectively tackle illegal content online”. Among illegal content the document quotes copyright infringements or “hate speech”.

The European Union expects from online platforms, even small ones, to use upload filters. Gloria.tv is affected by the recommendation. We have anticipated this and therefore have incorporated a filter system since May 2017. It has eliminated copyright infringements from our servers and checks all new uploads for this issue. We need to pay a lot of money for this service. The last invoice, paid on March 2, was $ 1.950.

Back then, some friends asked us whether such expensive services were really necessary. Now, we know the answer. Plus: Copyright litigations would be an easy way for our foes to get us entangled in costly litigations.

Paying for a filter is still cheaper than paying a lawyer. May we therefore kindly ask you, to contribute to our online Lenten campaign which is slowly getting off the ground. 40 people were so far willing to donate online. Please, consider joining this group of friends with your donation. You make Gloria.tv possible.

We kindly ask you to help us
