Vatican Clarifies Position on Kim Davis
The Vatican distanced Pope Francis from Kim Davis, the Kentucky clerk who refused to issue same-sex marriage licenses, saying that they met in a group meeting planned by others.
Vatican 2 October 2015 SOUNDBITE (English) Father Thomas Rosica, Vatican Spokesman: “First of all the meeting took place as the farewell greetings as the Pope was leaving the Nunciature in Washington. The Nunzio invited a number of guests, his own choice, to greet the Pope. Very brief greetings and in the Pope’s characteristic kindness and his warmth and hospitality, he shook peoples’ hands and gave them rosaries. We should understand it as that. In terms of why this person was invited, you have to ask those questions of the Nunciature.”
