Foundations: Their Power and Influence Paperback – October 1, 2014

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 56 ratings

This is a searching analysis of some of America's most powerful tax-exempt foundations, their actions as opposed to their stated purpose's, the interlocking groups of men who run them, and their influence on the country at large. The author, as counsel to the Reece Committee, which investigated foundations for the last Republican Congress, gained a unique insight into the inner workings of the various Rockefeller, Carnegie and Ford-created giants. He also witnessed the intense and powerful opposition to any investigation of these multi-billion-dollar public trusts. The Reece investigation was virtually hamstrung from the start to its early demise, which was aided and abetted by leading newspaper of the country. "It is difficult for the public to understand," writes Mr. Wormser, "that some of the great foundations which have done so much for us in some fields have acted tragically against the public interest in others, but the facts are there for the unprejudiced to recognize." "The power of the individual foundation giant is enormous. When there is like-mindedness among a group of these giants, which apparently is due to the existence of a closely knit group of professional administrators in the social science field, the power is magnified hugely. When such foundations do good, they justify the tax-exempt status which the people grant them. When they do harm, it can be immense harm - there is virtually no counter-force to oppose them."

Before I begin I would like to say how astonished I am at the lack of reviews for this tremendously important scholarly work. This book not only demands importance due to it's strict adherence to truthful and factual documentation, but is absolutely essential for understanding why American society is in the shape it is in politically, as-well as economically. With that said, a book of similar importance, Tragedy and Hope by Carroll Quigley, very important in its own right, nonetheless has more reviews despite being drastically shadowed by this book in an absolute sense.

The book is a documentation of the findings from the 82nd Congressionally appointed committee nicknamed, "The Reece Committee," which was given the task of investigating tax-exempt foundations; of prime significance the Ford, Rockefeller, and Carnegie respectively.

In a more refined sense, the committee was instructed to the investigation of what significance, if any, were the foundations using their resources for "un-American and subversive activities; for political purposes; propaganda, or attempts to influence legislation."

The results and findings lay inside this highly important work.

Consequently, one must keep in mind that the book itself was not written by the committee; but rather by Rene A. Wormser, who acted as Counsel of the committee during its lifetime. However this does not in any way take away from the truthfulness of the findings. Wormser adheres strictly to the facts of what the committee mined out of Americas dark past and at that time, present. Also the chair of the committee, Carroll Reece, writes the preface in which he testifies to the objectivity of the book.

Overall, highly recommended if you can handle the truth.

This book is packed with info on foundations and the effect they've had on our political policies and our education system as well as medicine and the media. It is startling to understand how socialism has been pushed on us silently in the background through the money of these foundations. This book was written in 1958 and it is easy to see in 2020 how they are accomplishing their goals of turning the United States into a socialist nation. This book is very well written but it is deep. It's not something you can read in an afternoon for sure. But it has been worth the time.

I gave this a 5 star not because it is a literary masterpiece but because it tells a story in detail of what has happened to our country as a result of the establishment of non-profit 'foundations'. It is not an easy read by any means but it tells an important story that needs to be told. While I am sure much good comes from foundations, ala Carnegie and libraries, much bad comes from foundations, ala Rockefeller. If you wonder how public policy and minds are influenced by the money of the rich and famous, look no further than this book.

This is the book of the life-time. This book reveals the foundations that the elite are using that are not in the best interest of the citizens of the united states, a major major piece of work, this is a RARE, HARD TO FIND book that was suppressed by the establishment, once you read it you will understand why, the corrupt bought and paid for media will never write or report like this book divulges, this is the book,,,,,

This is a good follow up to the Norman Dodd Interviews on youtube. Wormser relays a lot of good information, but attempts to mollify the sharp conclusions of Norman Dodd. Still a must have for the library on the egregious workings of the tax exempt Foundations.

This is one of the most important books that every American should read and own for a factual accounting of the NGO's power over our government and private welfare of each and every citizen. I would highly suggest purchasing Radio Liberty's "The Secret Government" on tape:

[ ASIN:B000MILFVS Radio Liberty: The Secret Government (4 CD's 2-One Hour Interview & 1-Two Hour Interview) ]

or CD (directly from Radio Liberty). Hopefully the CD version will be available soon on Amazon.
You can as they say, hear it directly from the horses' mouth with interviews from Norman Dodd concerning "The Enemies Within" and "Tragedy & Hope: A History of the World in Our Time" by Carroll Quigley and Dr. Monteith on the true nature of GeoPolitics.
Radio Liberty with their much valued and pertinent books, audio and video along with Dr. Stanley Monteith's audio reading will bring home to you a wealth of need-to-know information.

If you want to find out how the spreading of Socialism and Communism happened in America, it started way back in the 1920's, possibly earlier. Goes into the big foundations and how they have helped to corrupt science, schools, the government and more. I had heard about the Reece commission, but wow! I'm not finished reading it, but I'm surprised it was left to go until it got to this point. Mr. Wormser did a great job with the documents. It's a who's who of corruption, from Rockefellar, Carnigie and the Ford foundations to name a few. If you want to find out why and how we got here, this is the book. Great for both conservatives and progressives.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a shame that the Reece Commission's great work was abandoned

The power of foundations, and it is immense, has been at the service of marxist subversion for more than a century. The Ford Foundation recently pledged millions to Black Lives Matter as a current instance. It's a shame that the Reece Commission's great work was abandoned. These foundations should be torn up, root and branch.
