Sarah Palin says she is taken aback by Pope Francis' 'liberal agenda'

Sarah Palin has revealed that she is skeptical of the 'liberal' agenda that is being promoted by the new Pope, saying that she feels it is being influenced by the mainstream media.

'I'm kinda trying to follow what his agenda is. You know he came out with a couple of things in the media but again I'm not one to trust the media's interpretation of somebody's message but having read through media outlets,' the former Governor of Alaska said.

'He's had some statements that to me sound kind of liberal, has taken me aback, has kind of surprised me. There again, unless I really dig deep into what his messaging is, and do my own homework, I’m not going to just trust what I hear in the media,' she said during an interview with CNN.

Pope Francis has won universal praise after taking over as the leader of the Catholic Church little over a month ago.

In addition to showing his compassionate side by blessing a man with a rare disease and indulging a playful orphan who stole the spotlight from him during a public service, the Pope has also called on Catholics to take focus away from controversial issues like gay marriage and abortion.

In one of his first interviews in office, Pope Francis scolded the Church for being too 'obsessed' on certain hard-line issues, and while the move was embraced by many, some conservatives were shocked by the move.

It comes as little surprise that Palin should be part of the latter group, as she is the champion of the Tea Party movement, many members of which are against gay marriage and abortion rights.

The former Vice Presidential candidate got onto the topic of her religious beliefs as she is promoting her new book about the 'war on Christmas'.

She said that she considers herself a 'born again' Christian but did not choose to specify a particular denomination.

'I go to a Bible-believing church up there in Wasilla,' she said.

She credited her home state of Alaska as a major part of her religious conversion which took place in her early teens.

'When I was a young girl, I remember looking around the beauty of Alaska- I remember one summer, at a summer camp, looking around at our mountain ranges and the beautiful lakes and this creation and knowing even as a kid, wow, there is something greater than self,' she told CNN's Jake Tapper.

‘Whomever it is that created this certainly must know better than I how to direct my life. I put my life in God's hands at that time.

'I remember calling out to God and saying, 'I believe you" because I see God in my surroundings up there in Alaska really it's hard to escape it.'

She has recently been making the interview rounds in an effort to promote her book 'Good Tidings And Great Joy: Protecting The Heart Of Christmas'.

She argues that atheists and secular liberals are threatening the existence of Christmas.

'We need to protect the heart of Christmas, not let some atheists with an attorney - a scrooge - to tell them they can't celebrate,' she argued.
