Islam (Sunni) Sunni Muslims have historically lived in the cities of Albania, while Bektashis mainly live in remote areas, whereas Orthodox Christians mainly live in the south, and Roman Catholics mainly live in the north of the country.

According to Boston University's 2020 World Religion Database, Albania's religious affiliation is 59% Muslim, 38% Christian, 2.5% atheist or agnostic, and 0.6% Baha'i. Figures in 2022 note that 55% of the population are Sunni Muslim, 4.3% are Shia Muslim, 18.4% are Orthodox Christians and 17.9% are Catholic.

Albania was first a catholic country due to Romans invasion, but in the 15^th century after the Ottoman invasion it became Muslim. Since it shares a board in the south with Greece many inhabitants of these areas are orthodox. From the end of the 1960 practicing a religion was forbidden by the communist regime.

First to have preached the gospel in Albania may have been Saint Paul himself who states, "So from Jerusalem all the way around to Illyricum, I have fully proclaimed the gospel of Christ" (Romans 15:19). The apostle Andrew is also believed to have preached in Epirus.
