Saint Valerian of Châlon-sur-Saône

One of a group of 50 Christians who were imprisoned in Lyon, Gaul (in modern France) in the persecutions of Marcus Aurelius. Valerian escaped and became an evangelist in the area of modern Burgundy, France. Imprisoned again for his faith, by order of the governor Priscus he was tortured and mutilated with iron hooks to get him to renounce Christianity; it didn’t work. Martyr.
