Rutgers head wrestling coach Scott Goodale — who himself has made Rutgers wrestling into one of the top teams in the country since he took over the program in 2007 — appeared devastated by the untimely loss of the young man.

"Our whole New Jersey wrestling community and Rutgers wrestling sends its thoughts and prayers to Jesse's family," said Goodale in a statement Friday.

Boyden was a member of Goodale's inaugural recruiting class and he wrestled for Rutgers from 2008 to 2012. His weight class was 184 pounds.

Visitation and funeral information will be provided when available, said Rutgers University.
