A 41-year-old father from Sydney, Australia died suddenly during his regular morning surf on July 15th.

Carl Robinson, a local real estate agent who was also well-known in the Cronulla bodyboarding circles, was paddling in the ocean when four other surfers saw that he had suddenly collapsed, his friend and colleague Liz Stevens told Yahoo News Australia.

“That morning just after 7 am, emergency services were called to the beach. Lifeguards had pulled Mr. Robinson onto a jet ski and members of the public together with Surf Life Savers NSW and NSW Ambulance paramedics commenced CPR,” the Leader reported.

“Two 15-year-old boys, Chris and Jett, alerted lifeguards that Mr. Robinson was in trouble. They stayed with him while emergency crews tried to revive him,” the outlet added. “Chris’s mother Kyle Sargeant, said the teenagers were devastated and sorry they couldn’t do more.”

“The boys never left his side,” she said. “They are very shaken and not back in the water. The hardest part was that they knew him and would say hi every morning in the water.”

More from Yahoo News Australia:

It’s understood the surfers — including three teenage boys who often rode waves with Mr Robinson — saw the dad’s head in the water and rushed over to help after realising something was wrong.

Ms Stevens said the group jumped off their boards and worked to keep Mr Robinson afloat while they paddled him back to shore, performed CPR and alerted the lifeguards.

Despite their and paramedics’ best efforts, the 41-year-old died on the beach.

“Even though the outcome unfortunately wasn’t a good one, they gave it the best shot they could,” Ms Stevens said, adding that she’s been told by some of the teens’ parents that they were “very shaken” after the traumatic incident.

“The young boys knew Carl because they’d seen him out there every morning and had a banter with him.”

Mr Robinson leaves behind his wife Amy and their two children — a six-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl.

“At only 41 his life has ended too soon,” Ms Stevens said.

It is not yet known how the dad died and the family is awaiting test results.

Sutherland Shire Property Agents, a real estate agency, paid tribute to Mr. Robinson.

“Farewell to my good friend Carl Robinson. You will be forever missed. Thank you for all the good times, for your generosity, and, for your friendship. I feel blessed and privileged to have been able to call you my friend. You will never be forgotten. We have lost a beautiful soul. I will miss you Carlo, RIP for eternity mate,” the agency wrote on Facebook.
