Profile
Born to the Italian nobility, Gerard initially went to Potenza in southern Italy to join the Crusades. However, while there he realized that he could serve the Church better as a priest. Chosen bishop of Potenza in his old age, he served from 1111 to 1119. He was noted as living such a quiet, pious life that he seemed more like a monk than one of the bishops of the day.
