Holy Cloak of St. Joseph Novena
Call on St. Joseph’s Special Patronage
This precious treasury of prayers in honour of St. Joseph is to be prayed for 30 days, commemorating the earthly thirty years which St. Joseph spent in the company of our Lord. St. Teresa of Avila vouched for its efficaciousness, writing “If you really want to believe in it, prove it to yourself by reciting the Novena and you will be finally convinced.”
It takes approximately 20-25 minutes and “the extraordinary graces obtained by this prayer are innumerable“. It is suggested that one be specific in petition, rather than florid and vague. This devotion calls upon a special patronage from our glorious patriarch St. Joseph and, in order to warrant such a merit, it is suggested that one make additional offerings for the Holy Souls, for whom this devotion is also particularly helpful. One might, for example, pray the De Profundis daily after the 6:00pm Angelus, and/or the Daily Prayers for the Holy Souls. One could also offer daily the Litany for the Poor Souls.
It is said that any missed days may be caught up on the 30th day. So if one were to miss 2 days (not recommended), then the prayers in their totality would be recited 3 times on the final day.

OFFERING I:
O Glorious Patriarch St. Joseph, I humbly prostrate myself before Thee. I beg the Lord Jesus, thine Immaculate Spouse, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and all the Angels and Saints in the Heavenly Court, to join me in this devotion. I offer thee this precious cloak, while pledging my sincerest faith and devotion. I promise to do all in my power to honour thee throughout my lifetime to prove my love for thee.
Help me, St. Joseph. Assist me now and throughout my lifetime, but especially at the moment of my death, as thou wert assisted by Jesus and Mary, that I may join thee one day in Heaven and there honour thee for all eternity. Amen.

O Glorious Patriarch St. Joseph, prostrate, before thee and thy Divine Son, Jesus, I offer thee, with heartfelt devotion, this precious treasury of prayers, being ever mindful of the numerous virtues which adorned thy sacred person. In thee, O Glorious Patriarch, was fulfilled the dream of thy precursor the first Joseph, who indeed seemed to have been sent by God to prepare the way for thy presence on this earth. In fact, not only wert thou surrounded by the shining splendour of the rays of the Divine Sun, Jesus, but thou wert splendidly reflected in the brilliant light of the mystic moon, the Blessed Virgin Mary. O Glorious Patriarch, if the example of the ancient Jacob, who personally went to congratulate his favourite son, who was exalted on the throne of Egypt, served to bring all his progeny there, should not the example of Jesus and Mary, who honoured thee with their greatest respect and trust, serve to bring me, thy devoted servant, to present thee with this precious cloak in thy honour.
Grant, O Great St. Joseph, that the Almighty God may turn a benevolent glance toward me. As the ancient Joseph did not reject his guilty and cruel brothers, but rather accepted them with love and protected and saved them from hunger and death, I beseech thee, O Glorious Patriarch, through thine intercession, grant that the Lord may never abandon me in this exiled valley of sorrows. Grant that He may always number me as one of thy devoted servants who dost live serenely under the patronage of thy Holy Cloak. Grant that I may live always within the protection of this patronage, every day of my life and particularly at that moment when I draw my dying breath. Amen.

Hail O Glorious St. Joseph, thou who art entrusted with the priceless treasures of heaven and earth and foster-father of Him Who doth nourish all the creatures of the universe. Thou art, after Mary, the Saint most worthy of our love and devotion. Thou alone, above all the Saints, wert chosen for that supreme honour of rearing, guiding, nourishing and even embracing the Messiah, Whom so many kings and prophets would have so desired to behold.
St. Joseph, save my soul and obtain for me from the Divine Mercy of God that petition for which I humbly pray.

O powerful St. Joseph, thou wert proclaimed the Patron of the Universal Church, therefore, I invoke thee, above all the other Saints, as the greatest protector of the afflicted, and I offer countless blessings to thy most generous heart, always ready to help in any need.
To thee, O Glorious St. Joseph, come the widows, the orphans, the abandoned, the afflicted, the oppressed. There is no sorrow, heartache or anguish which thou hast not consoled. Deign, I beseech thee, to use on my behalf those gifts which God hast given thee, until I too shall be granted the answer to my petition. And thou, Holy Souls in Purgatory, pray to St. Joseph for me. Countless are those who have prayed to thee before me and have received comfort and peace, graces and favours. My heart, so sad and sorrowful, cannot find rest in the midst of this trial which besets me. O Glorious St. Joseph, thou knowest all my needs even before I set them forth in prayer. Thou knowest how important this petition is for me. I prostrate myself before thee as I sigh under the heavy weight of the problem which confronts me.
There is no human heart in which I can confide my sorrow; and even if I should find a compassionate creature who would be willing to assist me, still he would be unable to help me. Only thou can help me in my sorrow, St. Joseph, and I beg thee to hear my plea.
Has not St. Teresa left it written in her dialogues that the world may always know “Whatever you ask of St. Joseph, you shall receive.”
O St. Joseph, comforter of the afflicted, have pity on my sorrow and pity on those Poor Souls who place so much hope in their prayers to thee. Amen.

Do not permit, O dearest St. Joseph, that I alone be the only one of all who hast appealed to thee, to be denied this petition which I so earnestly beg of thee. Show thy kindness and generosity even to me, that I may cry out in thanksgiving, “Eternal glory to our Holy Patriarch St. Joseph, my great protector on earth and the defender of the Holy Souls in Purgatory.” Amen.

O Glorious Patriarch St. Joseph, thou who wert chosen by God above all men to be the earthly head of the most holy of families, I beseech thee to accept me within the folds of thy holy cloak, that thou mayest become the guardian and custodian of my soul.
From this moment on, I choose thee as my father, my protector, my counselor, my patron and I beseech thee to place in thy custody my body, my soul, all that I am, all that I possess, my life and my death.
Look upon me as one of thy children; defend me from the treachery of my enemies, invisible or otherwise, assist me at all times in all my necessities; console me in the bitterness of my life, and especially at the hour of my death. Say but one word for me to the Divine Redeemer Whom thou wert deemed worthy to hold in thine arms, and to the Blessed Virgin Mary, thy most chaste spouse. Prayer to St. Joseph:
To thee do we cry in our tribulations, O Blessed Saint Joseph, as we confidently invoke thy patronage, after that of thy most holy spouse, the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Devotion to St. Joseph:
The Blessed Virgin Mary asks Ven. Mary of Agreda for a loving devotion to St. Joseph:
“My daughter, although thou hast described my spouse, Saint Joseph, as the most noble among the princes and saints of the heavenly Jerusalem; yet neither canst thou properly manifest his eminent sanctity, nor can any of the mortals know it fully before they arrive at the vision of the Divinity. Then all of them will be filled with wonder and praise as the Lord will make them capable of understanding this sacrament. On the last day, when all men shall be judged, the damned will bitterly bewail their sins, which prevented them from appreciating this powerful means of their salvation, and availing themselves, as they easily could have, of this intercessor to gain the friendship of the just Judge. The whole human race has much undervalued the privileges and prerogatives conceded to my blessed spouse and they know not what his intercession with God is able to do. I assure thee, my dearest, that he is one of the greatly favoured personages in the divine presence and has immense power to stay the arms of divine vengeance.
“I desire that thou be very thankful to the divine condescension for vouchsafing thee so much light and knowledge regarding this mystery, and also for the favour which I am doing thee therein. I’m 18 days into this beautiful novena of St Joseph and am already seeing results. I’m praying for the conversion of my future son in-law. I have been praying to Saint Joseph for 39 years since I was pregnant with my first born, Saint Joseph has been answering all my prayers since. My first son also has great faith in him, I place the Saint Joseph protection prayer all over my home and in my children’s cars, when they were young in their bicycles to keep them safe. My son had a motorbike accident which he was saved from serious injuries. I love my Saint Joseph and I believe he will always protect me snd my family, I named my second Joseph in honour of my favourite Saint. This is my third time praying St Joseph’s Holy Cloak. I found it because of my Patron, St Teresa of Avila, who said whatever you ask of St Joseph, you will receive, well, it is TRUE! Both times in the past, and although they were for material needs, and I felt bad asking for them, He answered! And very specifically, right down to the tiniest detail, I mean EVERY little detail and now we own our first home. This was December of 2019 and we closed July 2020. This was no small favor, as we both always had poor credit and never owned a home. Our credit shot up to almost 800 and we were given the grace to manage our money. The next request was also a large material favor I asked, which was also grated! Both very swiftly. I am now praying for a spiritual miracle for a loved one. This situation will take a miracle so I come back again to St Joseph and offer him this beautiful Holy Cloak prayer. He has been so very good to my family and I and I will continue to love and honor him, Jesus and Our Lady. This prayer has never let me down. I love and thank you, good St Joseph and this wonderful site for publishing this prayer! Spread this devotion everywhere and ask him mostly for conversion and give him thanksgiving! God Bless!

I prayed the Holy Cloak of St Joseph for my son and his family that they be guided in their decisions in life. My prayers are heard and now my son and his family are back to our home and slowly settling happily.

My son and his 2 kids lived in another state from our family. He had gone through an awful divorce from his wife who was not a fit mother for their two tiny kids. He got involved with a woman who approached him and offered to keep his toddlers because he worked overnight as a tractor trailer driver. He was in a dire and volatile situation with this woman. I worried a lot about him and my grand children. She resented me because my son and I were close. I prayed the rosary everyday for his family, offered Masses etc. I thought to myself, I need some powerful help for my son. Who do I pray to? I’ve gone to the Shrine of St. Joseph here in St. Louis off and on since I was little. I thought about “St. Joseph.” THE PATRON SAINT OF FAMILIES and Jesus’ father!! He “quickly” helped my son move from Tucson with an “immediate” transfer with his company which was extremely unusual!! Police had to be called so he could move out. He had to make her think he was moving locally. after working a 12 hour shift, he hit the highway for St, Louis. St. Joseph is just so wonderful, so powerful. There’s no saint like him. He is second only to the Blessed Virgin!! The Shrine was founded by the Jesuits in 1843 and is the site of the only authenticated miracle in the midwestern United States.

One minor editorial/grammatical note: the prayer “Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I give Thee my heart and my soul” might need to be rather, “Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I give You my heart and my soul.” ‘Thee’ is the singular objective form of address, but it seems like the prayer addresses all three persons in the second person plural. In that case, ‘You’ would be the second person plural objective pronoun in Early Modern English (e.g. King James, Douay-Rheims) and hieratic (prayer book) English.
We don’t see just how powerful a saint is St. Joseph, just look at the litany, terror of demons been my favourite, he truly looked after the Holy Family so well, I recommend you get the book Life of Saint Joseph written by Maria Cecilia Baij, silver/grey in cover what a book

Last year my daughter planned a trip to Paris to visit her cousin. She book her flight shortly after the war in Ukraine started. The flight had a one hour layover in Germany. This worried us. We had no idea the size of the airport, if she got stuck what she would do. She started calling the airline to see if they had other flights that would take her through other places. Each time she was told no.. Every year in March I read books on St. Joseph. I happened to just finished reading the story of the miracle of the stairs in New Mexico when she came and told me she had just gotten a non stop flight to Paris.

I prayed daily and I was offered a good job.
Since 2017, I have made a routine to daily pray to St.Joseph before I begin my daily work. This has resulted in tremendous growth in my professional life.
Just to let you know, you may need to go back over your articles. Links are being deleted or blocked. The podcast at the end of this article no longer exists according to google. This is not the first time I’ve come across this in my research regarding the Catholic Faith.
I have done this 30-day prayer a few times over the years.
One time we asked for a new house and I wrote down everything I wanted in a house. I admit though, that this time we also did a 54 day Rosary novena, but I have to tell you that it is just as someone said above, that “every detail was granted”, tiny – even unnecessary – details that you say in prayer that you think are insignificant and that seem very unlikely or almost impossible but St Joseph sometimes likes to surprise us! Sometimes we humans even feel we are not being heard, but I can tell you, even in those smallest things you are certainly being listened to. God is amazing and St Joseph is his servant. So yes, we have our house and in a much better suburb that we would have ever thought also.
So last year 2022 when I said this prayer I offered it especially for a two men I know who are widowers and who wanted to find a wife. One, almost 80 years old has found a very hopeful prospect, I would say I think he will soon be engaged. The other has married already (within the year after the St Joseph prayer) after searching for around 8 years or so for a mother for his children.
More recently I prayed the prayer for my intentions and I obtained seven answers, whilst there is still one answer I wanted, it has not eventuated yet, but the seven answers I had were greatly consoling and hopeful as we went through a trial. They reassured me St Joseph listens, he cares AND he can “make things happen”. Please St Joseph, grant my final request in that regard.
I would also suggest to anyone saying the prayer to be open to any inspirations that St Joseph might offer to you. Be open to following them without the need for anyone else’s approval of them, but knowing that God has suggested to you what you should do, through the intercession of St Joseph in all Christian humility.

I began this Novena Today and have Faith in St. Joseph. He has helped me whenever I have prayed for his help. As a single Mom I ask prayers for my two young sons, daughter, step children, siblings and there families and those i promised to pray. Urgentlly I pray for their Salvation, Deliverance, Healing especially for their spiritual, physical, mental, emotional wounds, trauma and addictions.
