Update on Traditionis Custodes at St. John Cantius

Changes to Mass Schedule in light of Traditionis Custodes and Archdiocesan Policy

As of January 25, His Eminence Cardinal Blase Cupich’s policy, which implements Pope Francis’s motu proprio Traditionis Custodes, is in effect. Below is our revised schedule of Masses at St. John Cantius Church effective beginning Sunday, February 6th.

5:00 pm - Anticipated Mass (English)

7:30 am - Low Mass: 1962 Missal (Latin)

*First Sunday of every Month–Mass: 2002 Missal (Latin)

9:00 am - Sung Mass (English)

11:00 am - Sung Mass (Latin)

12:30 pm - High Mass: 1962 Missal (Latin)

*First Sunday of every Month–Sung Mass: 2002 Missal (Latin)

5:00 pm - Sung Mass (English)

As we approach Holy Mother Church’s major feasts of Christmas, Pentecost, and the Triduum of Easter, schedules for these days will be printed well in advance.

As you can see, for the foreseeable future, the Canons Regular will continue to offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass both according to the 1962 Missal and according to the 2002 Missal. We will continue to pray ad orientem. We will continue to praise God and lift souls aided by our renowned Sacred Music program. And we will continue to cultivate a culture of beauty in the Archdiocese of Chicago and beyond. Cantius will remain Cantius as best it can, and we are committed to continuing our ministry with you to restore the sacred in all things.

The Canons Regular remain—and are perhaps ever more so—committed to our charism, to our mission, and to each and every one of you.
