The son of Mariano Climent and Mariana Sanchís, Mariano was orphaned very young and was raised by his maternal aunt, Josefa Sanchís. He served as a soldier, fighting in the Carlist War, but after the war he gave in to a call to religious life and joined the Capuchins in 1881, making his perpetual profession on 17 June 1884. A strong, stoutly built, quiet and mature man, Brother Fidel served as porter, beggar and cook at houses and seminaries in Barcelona, Totana, Orihuela, Massamagrell and Valencia. Martyred in the Spanish Civil War.
