Anne Heche Lifetime Movie Set for September Release Following Car Crash

Anne Heche's Lifetime movie Girl in Room 13 is set to premiere in September, following the news that the actress is not expected to survive her recent car crash.

An update on the film's release came Thursday during a Television Critics Association press conference. The Lifetime network's executive vice president and head of programming, Amy Winter, said, "As many of you know, Anne remains in critical condition. And all of us here at Lifetime are deeply concerned for her and everyone affected. We hope that her friends and family stay strong during this difficult time."

Winter urged attendees to "refrain from inquiring about her health status."

"This project is important to Anne, along with each and every one of us. We all started to make a film that would bring attention to the appalling issue of human sex trafficking," Winter said. "We hope that this film moves you and that you are just as inspired as Anne was to help us with our mission to stop violence against women."

In the film, Heche plays a woman in search of her daughter after she becomes a victim of human trafficking. She stars alongside Larissa Dias, Max Montesi and Matt Hamilton.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the film's director, Elisabeth Rohm, said she's "devastated" over the Six Days Seven Nights star's hospitalization.

"I know that Anne really was passionate about this film. She gave it everything that she had, she brought a phenomenal performance and force to this project and she was really committed to stopping violence against women," Rohm said. "We wish she was here with us, and all I can say is that we're just praying for her recovery."

On August 5, Heche crashed her blue Mini Cooper into a Mar Vista, California, home, setting the building on fire. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department's report, it took 59 firefighters over an hour to control the blaze. Heche was rushed to the hospital with severe burns. No other injuries were reported.

"Unfortunately, due to her accident, Anne suffered a severe anoxic brain injury and remains in a coma, in critical condition," a representative for the Ohio native told People on Thursday. "She is not expected to survive."

Three days before, the rep told the magazine that Heche "has a significant pulmonary injury requiring mechanical ventilation and burns that require surgical intervention," adding that "she is in a coma."

A GoFundMe page has since been started by John and Jennifer Durand, who own the now destroyed home where a tenant, Lynne Mishele, was living. At the time of this writing, more than 3,300 people have donated nearly $143,000, exceeding the $100,000 goal.

Following the accident, several of Heche's exes, including Ellen DeGeneres, James Tupper and Thomas Jane, have spoken out. Alec Baldwin, Rosie O'Donnell and Rosanna Arquette have also expressed support on social media.

Newsweek reached out to Heche's representative for comment.
