Photographer creates bloody and gruesome picture series featuring CHILDREN dressed up as creepy horror characters, from an evil Snow White to Saw serial killer Jigsaw

A photographer has taken sweet cherubic children and covered their faces in dramatic make-up and fake blood to transform them into famous and classic horror characters as part of her gruesome picture series

Brit Bentine, 31, from Houston, Texas, is the artist behind Locked Illusions, a studio that specializes in unique Gothic and fantasy-inspired photography. For her children focused horror series, the photographer created the disturbing series of photos using extravagant make-up, costumes and backdrops.

'I've always enjoyed working with children and I think it just fit because it isn't something you see every day in these themes in photography,' she explained.

Brit, who has been a photographer for six years, said she is inspired by everything she sees - and for this particular series she looked to characters from scary movies such as Edward Scissorhands, Jigsaw and the Joker.

With other images, Brit uses inspiration from all over the world to create her thought-provoking horror image art.

And while some of the images are based on actual horror characters, others are inspired by movies and stories that many would consider the complete antithesis to the horror genre.

For example, one of her gruesome images features a little girl dressed as Snow White and holding a bloody apple - a creepy twist on what is seen by many as a joyous fairytale.

'I'm literally inspired by everything, especially stuff like paintings, music, fashion, dreams etc,' she said.

Another equally creepy scene shows a young girl riding a tricycle down a narrow alleyway while dressed as the evil doll character Jigsaw from the gory horror movie series Saw.

More graphic scenes depict a little ballerina covered in bloody and a young boy and girl enjoying a bloody picnic.

Brit creates the horror scenes by herself and works with make-up artists, including Lady Bertina, Kristen St James and Angela Jarman to get the perfect terrifying look.

She also sources her amazing costumes for the shoots from all over the world - and works with Staci Rizner on some custom made designs.

'As weird as it sounds I want everyone to have their own interpretation, the message is simple - what do you see?' she explained.

And because of the nature of the photos, it's unsurprising that many people have very specific creations to the images.

'I've had so much feedback from people and it seems that they usually either love it or really hate it - honestly though, most of the hate comes from the world of the internet,' Brit said.

The photographer noted that she first started the spooky series by photographing her own children.

'I just love working with children, they have a lot of fun with it and are just natural in front of the camera,' she explained.

Brit said she can work with kids who are as young as one-year-old but noted that she uses less make-up and more editing for her youngest clients.

One of her images shows a toddler sitting in a tree stump dressed as Edward Scissorhands.

'This isn't just a project for Halloween either, it's something I've been working on all year round,' Brit said of the images, which happen to be perfect for trick-or-treating.
