A Time of Terrible Oppression: “I do wonder if we’ll look back on this period in history as a time of terrible oppression” – the British comedian Frank Skinner said to the Telegraph. “People are so afraid to say anything. In 2010 Skinner, a practicing Catholic, defended priestly celibacy in a public debate in London.

A Former Student: 59-year-old Linda Rose Gagnon was convicted of stealing $285,000 Dollars in retirement money from the U.S. Province of the Religious of Jesus and Mary in 2011. Instead of buying the nuns a San Diego property for the care of elderly sisters as was promised, she blew the cash in just 64 days on personal travel, lingerie, manicures, restaurants, lease payments for an Audi TT sports car, her business and valet pet-sitting services for her dog. Gagnon had once attended a boarding school run by the order. When she ran out of money she asked the sisters for another $285,000. Gagnon faces up to 60 years in prison.
