Looking Back to Go Forward.
Epiphany: One of the main errors of our time is this: modern man, when he thinks of God or acknowledges His existence at all, tries to make Him think and act like us fallen men. Man today makes God a chum, so to speak, an equal or an even less than equal. One of the main reasons modern man does this? He wants to avoid taking up the Cross. This leads to inevitable inversions of what we have always believed and held dear. On the other hand, the Fathers of the Church tell us that God became man so that we might be made like unto God! God sent us mystics to show us what becoming like unto God looks like. They greatly help us to know what God is like and how He thinks and acts. At this time we are, as it were, in Jerusalem with the three Kings. Our guiding light has left us...we are seemingly alone among hostile forces using craftiness, guile, manipulation and violence to attain their ends. To survive this fallen Jerusalem and arrive safely at the Crib of God made man, we have to look back upon all that God has given us in the Deposit of the Faith (Scripture and Tradition)... including the writings and saying of the fathers, doctors, saints and mystics in order to go forward...and be made like unto God.
