Emaciated Lions Starving to Death in Sudan Zoo.
Several lions are gaunt and starving at a rundown zoo in Sudan’s capital, drawing an impassioned response from thousands across the world. The park was once teeming with animals that are now almost entirely dead or evacuated. Those that remain are severely malnourished. Two lionesses did not survive their maltreatment, only three weak and emaciated lions remain. Sudan’s political and economic unrest has caused the price of food to soar, making it hard to care for the lions. However, advocates are saying that many international organizations are willing to help, including an emergency rescue group expected in Sudan shortly. (AP)
