Nor do I mean that there are not countless faithful Catholics, holy priests, religious, bishops, fathers and mothers who love God deeply and are striving every day to live the Catholic faith. I mean something different. I am asking whether we have gradually constructed a way of thinking about the Church – a way of governing her, speaking about her, worshipping within her, and determining her priorities – that increasingly functions as though the supernatural were no longer the central reality.
