Louis Bouffard on the euthanasia law: "My life is worth living, even if it is fragile"
Completely dependent and on life support, Louis loudly asserts that his life has meaning, value, and deserves to be lived to the fullest. He reflects with emotion on the loss of his mother, on the power of bonds, even at the end of life, and on what he himself calls: the beauty of fragility. But behind the parliamentary debates, he denounces a hidden social pressure that suggests to the most vulnerable that they are "too much." He warns: this vague and dangerous law already makes him eligible for assisted death, even though he wants to live. Louis reminds us that requesting death is not a choice, it is a cry for help. He speaks in schools, with young people, to change the way people view disability. And faced with a society that proposes death as the answer to suffering, he pleads for more listening, more support, more presence. "Even fragile, even dependent, I am fully alive. What I need isn't a lethal …More

Trump refuses ‘to think purely of peace’ because of Nobel snub

The US president has blasted Norway over the decision not to award him the Nobel Peace Prize
US President Donald Trump has rebuked Norway for not awarding him the Nobel Peace Prize, saying the decision had freed him from any obligation to think “purely of peace,” according to a letter circulated by multiple media outlets on Monday.
Trump made the jab in a message to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store, blasting Norway over a refusal “to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS.”
In light of this, the US president said he “no longer feel[s] an obligation to think purely of Peace.” However, he noted that peace would still remain “predominant” on his agenda, but he could now focus on “what is good and proper for the United States of America.”
Trump continued the letter by pivoting to his push for establishing US control over Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory, arguing that “the World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of …

EXCLUSIVE: Archbishop Viganò's message to young American Catholics - LifeSite

Sat Jan 17, 2026 - 1:29 pm EST
Editor’s note: This is the transcript of Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò’s keynote address (delivered via video) at the REGINA Magazine Conference in Tampa, Florida, on Saturday, January 17. Published with permission.
(
LifeSiteNews) — Dear Friends,
It is a joy for me to address all of you who have gathered in Tampa with personalities from the traditional Catholic world. Many of you are aware of the very serious institutional crisis we are experiencing, both in the civil and ecclesiastical spheres. The attack against citizens and the faithful originates from the highest authorities of the State and the Church, in a reversal of their proper purposes. Others among you are bewildered by these developments, unable to believe that those in authority could consciously act to destroy the institutions they preside over. There are some, especially among the so-called “moderates,” who still think that the actions of politicians and bishops are the result of inexperience …

Normally, I endorse everything Archbishop Vigano says but I'm having a problem with this message, specifically this: "receiving the Sacraments frequently, assisting at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass." The Archbishop should realize that, although good advice, it isn't very easy to accomplish any more. Great numbers of Churches that were offering the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass have now discontinued it. I live in a fairly large city and there is only ONE "shrine" where one can attend the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in the whole city. And it is in a high crime area. I don't feel safe going there. Many people must drive for many miles to find a Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, and for many, this is prohibitive. Of course, this includes receiving the other Sacraments. True Catholics are like sheep without a shepherd and many feel alone and abandoned. The Archbishop needs to recognize this and not offer impractical advice.

ICE broke into Minnesota home, dragged barely clothed man into snow| Dawn News English
SAINT PAUL, Minnesota, Jan 19 (Reuters) - A Minnesota man told Reuters on Monday he felt fear, shame and desperation a day after ICE officers broke down his door with guns drawn, handcuffed him and dragged him into the snow wearing shorts and Crocs.
ChongLy Thao, 56, a naturalized U.S. citizen who goes by the name Scott, was returned home later on Sunday without explanation ‌or apology, he said.
"I was praying. I was like, God, please help me, I didn't do anything wrong. Why do they do this to me? Without my clothes on," Thao, a Hmong man ‌born in Laos, told Reuters from his home on Monday, while neighbors were at work fixing the broken door.
Pictures of the incident showing Thao barely clothed and covered in a blanket taken by a Reuters photographer and bystanders spread on social media, further fueling concern that federal law enforcement officers were exceeding their authority as part of U.S. …More

The bishop has opened his soul up to possession.

Sandy Barrett

On January 19, 2026, at the Apostolic Palace, Pope Leo XIV met with leaders of the Neocatechumenal Way. He praised their missionary zeal, charisma, and contributions to evangelization and catechesis, but centered his message on two main requirements: unity in the Church and respect for freedom of conscience.
The Pope stressed that all Christians are incorporated into Christ and the Church through Baptism, and that charisms must serve the common good rather than be lived in isolation or as something superior. He warned against attitudes of elitism or exclusion and urged the Neocatechumenal Way to be witnesses of unity, exercising a mission that is particular but not exclusive, always in communion with the rest of the Church.
He explicitly called them to integrate fully into ordinary parish pastoral life and to remain in close communion with bishops and priests, advancing with joy, humility, and openness as builders of communion.
Pope Leo XIV also emphasized interior freedom, recalling …More

Pope to Neocatechumenal Way: Be builders and witnesses of communion

Pope Leo XIV meets with members and leaders of the Neocatechumenal Way, and encourages their mission while urging them to be witnesses of unity in the Church.
By Isabella H. de Carvalho
Pope Leo XIV thanked the Neocatechumenal Way for their witness and work in spreading the Gospel around the world and encouraged them to promote unity and avoid rigidity and moralism, in a meeting with the leaders of the group at the Vatican on Monday, January 19, 2026.
“Strive forward in joy and humility, without closing yourselves off, as builders and witnesses of communion,” he said. “The Church accompanies you, supports you, and is grateful for what you do.”
The
Neocatechumenal Way is an itinerary of Catholic formation founded in Spain in the 1960s by Kiko Argüello and Carmen Hernández. It is made up of small communities that follow an itinerary of rediscovery of our baptism and ongoing formation in the faith.
Today, it is present in 139 countries across the world, with over 20,000 communities. …

Jan. 19 Saint Fabian.
breski1 January 19, 2008 Saint Fabian
Fabian was a Roman layman who came into the city from his farm one day as clergy and people were preparing to elect a new pope. Eusebius, a Church historian, says a dove flew in and settled on the head of Fabian. This sign united the votes of clergy and laity and he was chosen unanimously. He led the Church for 14 years and died a martyr’s death during the persecution of Decius in a.d. 250. St. Cyprian wrote to his successor that Fabian was an “incomparable” man whose glory in death matched the holiness and purity of his life.
In the catacombs of St. Callistus, the stone that covered Fabian’s grave may still be seen, broken into four pieces, bearing the Greek words, “Fabian, bishop, martyr.”

1st book of Samuel 16,1-13.
The LORD said to Samuel: "How long will you grieve for Saul, whom I have rejected as king of Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and be on your way. I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem, for I have chosen my king from among his sons."
But Samuel replied: "How can I go? Saul will hear of it and kill me." To this the LORD answered: "Take a heifer along and say, 'I have come to sacrifice to the LORD.'
Invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I myself will tell you what to do; you are to anoint for me the one I point out to you."
Samuel did as the LORD had commanded him. When he entered Bethlehem, the elders of the city came trembling to meet him and inquired, "Is your visit peaceful, O seer?"
He replied: "Yes! I have come to sacrifice to the LORD. So cleanse yourselves and join me today for the banquet." He also had Jesse and his sons cleanse themselves and invited them to the sacrifice.
As they came, he looked at Eliab and thought, "Surely the LORD'S anointed is here …

As the years go by, you realize that real friendship isn’t about how many contacts you have in your phone or how many smiling photos you can post. It’s about the people who stay when everyone else quietly fades out. The ones who see your tears, your weaknesses, your defeats — and still hold your hand without letting go.
True friends don’t need long explanations. One look is enough for them to know if you’re hurting or if you’re genuinely happy. And even in silence, there’s a warmth between you that speaks louder than words.
Friends like that are a gift from God. There aren’t many of them — and that’s the point. One sincere friend is worth more than a hundred casual acquaintances. And as the years pass, you find yourself quietly thanking God for the few He left in your life — the ones you can walk through the darkest seasons with.
Because friendship shaped by love and loyalty is a small glimpse of eternity in our very temporary world.

JANUARY 20 2026 THE GOSPEL
breski1
Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 2,23-28.
As Jesus was passing through a field of grain on the sabbath, his disciples began to make a path while picking the heads of grain.
At this the Pharisees said to him, "Look, why are they doing what is unlawful on the sabbath?"
He said to them, "Have you never read what David did when he was in need and he and his companions were hungry?
How he went into the house of God when Abiathar was high priest and ate the bread of offering that only the priests could lawfully eat, and shared it with his companions?"
Then he said to them, "The sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath.
That is why the Son of Man is lord even of the sabbath."

Cardinal Parolin Confirms Report on Vatican Mediation With Maduro

On Saturday, Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin confirmed that he tried to find a solution in Venezuela that would avoid bloodshed, including seeking an agreement with Nicolás Maduro and other representatives of the government. The Cardinal added that these efforts ultimately failed.
Speaking on the sidelines of an event, Parolin said: "We tried what also appeared in some newspapers". This was an indirect reference to earlier reporting by Washington Post about Vatican involvement in efforts to secure a safe passage for Maduro before his capture by the United States.
Cardinal Parolin added that the Vatican had always supported a peaceful solution, but that it eventually found itself faced with a fait accompli, meaning the situation had developed beyond what diplomacy could influence.
In short, Parolin’s Saturday remarks publicly confirmed that:
- The Vatican tried to broker a peaceful exit for Maduro
- This included negotiating directly or indirectly with Maduro and his …More
