St Lawrence of Rome.
Painting from the Metropolitan Cathedral of Mexico City showing St Lawrence presenting the poor and needy to be the “treasure” of Christ’s holy Church. As one of the deacons of the Roman Church, it was his duty to distribute alms to the poor. Prior to his martyrdom, he did so, and then showed the poor to the Roman Prefect who had demanded that he surrender the Church’s purported wealth. He was martyred by being grilled alive on a gridiron.
