I think Mgr Pope is right to criticise those who hide the truth for the sake of human respect. Since the world is chastised by its own conscience, any external voice that mirrors that conscience stings it. If the world is implacably opposed to God then of course the world will declare such preaching hateful. That can't be avoided. However, some people use their knowledge of the truth to belittle others and idolise themselves. Its simply a useful tool to a narcissist. If it does not come with humility, charity, kindness, gentleness and respect for others, the knowledge of truth is simply a data point and not a lived reality. Gollum's precious!
