Fréjus-Toulon Clarifies: Vatican Has Imposed "No Sanctions"
Father Carlos Hamel of the chancery of Fréjus-Toulon Diocese, France, corrected on Rorate-Caeli.Blogspot.com (September 24) the recent news about measures against Roman Rite Catholics in the diocese.
These measures “are not sanctions 'imposed' by the Congregation of Bishops, but decisions made by the bishop, and transmitted to the Congregation,” Hamel insisted.
According to Hamel there is "no visitation" scheduled for communities in the diocese, "What the bishop wants is a report on the situation of each community ('état des lieux')." And, "There are no Vatican commissioners visiting communities.”
Hamel added that there may be visitations commissioned by the bishop or the Holy See in the future and that the diocese indeed spoke about “visiteurs.”
He also clarified that all priests working in the diocese are expected [contrary to Canon Law] to co-preside at the Chrism Mass and use the Novus Ordo when required, this has been the official policy of the diocese since at least 2020 (and unofficially before).
The information published on the diocesan website was understood to be otherwise (e.g. Diane Montagna, below).
