Lucifer Was Born on 1 January 2025

Lucifer Gary Bell was born on New Year's Day 2025, fifty-five minutes after midnight, at the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, England.

Parents Jess Bell, 25, and Stefan Wake, 27, chose the name Lucifer because "it means bearer of light and has a special meaning to us. We have no intention of associating him with the devil. In fact, we did not call him Satan."

Adding to the unusual name is a strange coincidence: Lucifer was born in delivery room number 6, and both mother and baby were moved to bed 6 in room 6.

"But we had already decided on the name," the father points out, "so 666 is just an oddity."

The mother said: "It was mainly people from the older generation who told us we couldn't call our son that. They told us: 'Think what will happen at school! But we are normal, loving parents and we certainly have no interest in associating our son with the devil," she added.

The couple insist that the baby is "an angel, not a little devil" and that they haven't had a single sleepless night with him.

The name Lucifer was chosen partly because of the parents' passion for a TV series called Lucifer.

The Anglican parents want to christen Lucifer and hope there will be no complications.

These parents have no clue that every name has denotation, connotation and a sound. They may control what the name means to them but its history and what it means to others they can’t control. So, why give an innocent child all that demonic denotation and connotation? Choose the name of a saint if you truly want your child baptized.

Perhaps there is no demonic denotation here - St. Lucifer of Cagliari was a champion of the Catholic faith in the struggle with Arianism.

I hear you. But do you really think most people when they hear the name “Lucifer” are thinking of St. Lucifer of Cagliari or even the parents? It’s not what the parents think. The satanic denotation is there. We don’t choose it.

I believe that in due time the child himself will check wikipedia, for example, and think. Such a name forces you to... choose sides.
Moreover, the parents want to baptize their son (though in the Anglican "church").
