Benedict Has Inflicted His Greatest Defeats on Himself - Mosebach

Martin Mosebach wrote an obituary for Benedict XVI on Welt.de (December 31). Highlights

• Benedict XVI did not consider the Church’s tradition as a bargaining chip up for grabs following the expediencies of the day, and was therefore insulted as "the black head of the reaction."

• He triggered a wave of conversions and vocations to the priesthood.

• His friends often did not understand why he refrained from using the power contained in his office and deliberately did not govern with orders. But he [allegedly] wanted to trust solely in the "gentle force of truth."

• With an assertiveness that he did not usually allow himself, he made in 2007 the doctrinal decision that the Roman Liturgy was fundamentally withdrawn from the legislation of the popes and belonged to the inviolable good of the ecclesiastical tradition.

• Opposition to this act of legislation was fierce and culminated in the merciless harshness of Traditionis Custodes (2021).

• It will be Summorum Pontificum that was repealed before his eyes, that will be remembered of Benedict XVI's pontificate.

• This sworn enemy of the revolution performed a revolutionary act in 2013 by abdicating the papacy making the papacy appear in a disturbing way to be duplicated.

• In retirement, Benedict had to endure the cruel fate of seeing his most important projects pushed aside and his most loyal collaborators ostracised.

• He experienced the consequences of his weakness in judging people when the German prelates he had elevated unflinchingly took the path to schism (2019-2022).

• Benedict was destined to have caused himself his greatest defeat.

• It remains true that he was the best who could have been elected as John Paul II's successor.

While Benedict never 'recanted' his previous theological positions or his theological affiliations, unlike another pontiff, he did not use his papal authority to bludgeon the faithful or the Church into conforming to his previous theological positions. While Benedict never 'recanted' his previous theological positions or his theological affiliations, unlike another pontiff, he did not use his papal authority to bludgeon the faithful or the Church into conforming to his previous theological positions. His approach appears to have reflected an enlightened respect for, and love for, tradition and doctrine unshackled to his scholastic speculations in prior years. Such is true leadership shorn of egoism.

Ratzinger was one more modernist from the school of Tubingen. He and his the Rhaner gang where experts known at the concilium vat II as "priest in suits".
As a theologian, his books are full of heresies and modernism.
His "pontificate" was no diferent from Bergoglio's, we just didn't have fast internet back then.More

@Sancte Teotónio -Perhaps your post is partly true. Benedict XVI probably still did adhere to his views of Vatican II for the most part, but liturgically he did firmly state as a Cardinal that the Novus Ordo is NOT what Vatican II envisioned as a reform. Still, he unfortunately did not oppose it. He did as Pope try to correct many liturgical abuses, and did introduce "Summorum Pontificum", which …More

Still, he unfortunately did not oppose it. He did as Pope try to correct many liturgical abuses, and did introduce "Summorum Pontificum", which fatboy Bergoglio has tried to suppress. I've read so much about Benedict XVI within the last few days, that would always defend and support that good and saintly Pontiff, regardless of his mistakes which he did when he was younger.....many of which he backtracked on as a Cardinal and as Pope. Unlike Han Kung, infamous and despicable heretic who remained so until his death.

What i posted is only partly true in the manner that he, Ratzinger did so much more evil to the church than that.

THis is all so true. God Bless our great Pope Benedict XVI. If only he had the firmness and determination that earned him the name "God's Rottweiler". I admire him for his gentleness....that is the mark of a Saint. But his charity and good nature (He has been called by many a true gentleman), was an asset as well as a liability. He was too weak in some things, and chose to trust people, even though …More

I admire him for his gentleness....that is the mark of a Saint. But his charity and good nature (He has been called by many a true gentleman), was an asset as well as a liability. He was too weak in some things, and chose to trust people, even though they had a bad reputation/track record. I feel very sorry him in that regard. But I am sure he is enjoying his reward in Heaven, which people like Pope Francis, and all the people and appointments who mocked and belittled Pope Benedict can perhaps not hope for.

That's right!! I too repudiate and reject Bergoglio as Pope.

pls stop the childish fantasy that BXVI didn't abdicate. That doesn't even matter for anything, he was still a modernist like Bergoglio. The problem is Vatican II

Well Gentlemen, if Benedict XVI was the legitimate successor to Saint Peter and Vicar of Christ until his death we need a conclave to elect his successor - right? Any suggestions when it is to be held ?
jerome_ky
LiveJohn: It will be held at Bergoglio's death or resignation.
