Jeans are uncomfortable.

I think the following quote cited by @On the Contrary in their recent post on Marriage says a great deal in this regard:

"This is why Abp. Fulton Sheen says in Life is Worth Living: When a man loves a woman, he has to become worthy of her. The higher her virtue, the more noble her character, the more devoted she is to truth, justice, goodness, the more a man has to aspire to be worthy of …More

The history of civilization could actually be written in terms of the level of its women."

Is there any doubt the bottom photos in that meme reflect a culture that fails to capture the essence of that womanly ideal....?

In fact, I was going to post another image here of a "woman in jeans" with my comment, just for the sake of contrast with Sheen's quote; but a basic Google image search for "woman in jeans" produces nothing but images you might see on a hyper-sexualized pin-up calendar -- that's how synonymous "woman in jeans" is with a fallen culture that has reduced women to objects.

Women wear pants and leggings because they are easier and more comfortable. Most women are not thinking about agendas nor desire to be men as they dress themselves.
Ave Crux
"Most women are not thinking..." Right, that about sums it up, and that's the biggest part of the problem.

When they die, God is going to ask these women whether they were thinking. Each and every moment of our lives we should be thinking about our eternity, our sanctification, our final judgment -- we should be thinking about how our way of dressing and our behaviors reflect Christ and His …More

When they die, God is going to ask these women whether they were thinking. Each and every moment of our lives we should be thinking about our eternity, our sanctification, our final judgment -- we should be thinking about how our way of dressing and our behaviors reflect Christ and His values....or not -- and how we affect the society in which we live; whether our lives ennoble the world in which we live, or simply go with the flow.

Our Lady spoke of a number of concerns at Fatima -- and one of them that the Mother of God took time to mention was "Fashions".....

“Certain fashions will be introduced that will offend Our Lord very much.”

“Woe to women lacking in modesty.”

“More souls go to Hell because of sins of the flesh than for any other reason.”

From the same article:

Saint John Chrysostom instructed women of all times about dress when in the fourth century he declared:

“You carry your snare everywhere and spread your nets in all places. You allege that you never invited others to sin. You did not, indeed, by your words, but you have done so by your dress and your deportment …

"When you have made another sin in his heart, how can you be innocent? Tell me, whom does this world condemn? Whom do judges punish? Those who drink poison or those who prepare it and administer the fatal potion? You have prepared the abominable cup, you have given the death-dealing drink, and you are more criminal than are those who poison the body; you murder not the body but the soul.

"And it is not to enemies you do this, nor are you urged on by any imaginary necessity, nor provoked by injury, but out of foolish vanity and pride.”

This is not helpful. You need not be pedantic to make a point. I myself am no longer wearing pants and never after I asked my pastor about it. He did not pontificate or insult. All women are not looking to offend and tempt nor do all women who wear pants hate the feminine. There are …More

There are good reasons for women to not wear pants and it should be discussed in charity not condemnation.
Ave Crux
Actually, that was intended as a factual observation, not an insult: women should be thinking of "agendas" -- the right agenda. That is precisely the point. Women should be thinking all the time about what impact their clothing has on the society in which they live. That -- precisely -- is the whole point.

And there is never a "good" reason for women who care about living the ideals of Christ…More

And there is never a "good" reason for women who care about living the ideals of Christian Civilization to wear pants in daily living. Monastic Sisters in full habit do everything -- even farm work! -- in full length garb and multiple layers. Our Lady would certainly never have found a "good reason" to wear pants in our time.

Look at the Muslims....do they even subscribe to the doctrine of Original Sin? But they know that the female form can be an occasion of sin if not clothed modestly. They go to unseemly, bizarre extremes, but they are clear on the problem. In fact, their basic clothing is very similar to what Our Blessed Mother wore, for that reason.

Modern clothing for women can certainly achieve admirable modesty and still look like they are living in the 21st Century. In fact, women are far more attractive in a wholesome, elevating way when they dress in skirts and dresses.

Ja jeans is voor bejaarde linkse mensen.

If only women understood the power they gave up when they started dressing immodestly (and like men.) While the examples show traditional folk dress that women would now only wear ceremoniously it makes an excellent point on how feminine modesty and beauty has been attacked by neo-marxist corporatism everywhere. Why do modernists hate the feminine so much?

Sounds like a utilitarian argument. Hey, it works therefore it must be good.

@philosopher Agreed. For that matter, why not go full "native" like they do in jungles. Clothing is not a matter of comfort, but of virtue and societal values -- which ought to be fully Christian.
philosopher
@Ave Crux "why not go full native?" They are getting there. Last week on a Texas Beach we had the Jeep's GoTopless Day, the Jeep enthusiasts do take the tops off the Jeep, but so do the ladies riding in them.

Isn't it obvious what this is all about...? Women's pants are normally skin tight, while men's are more baggy. A man wearing skin-tight jeans is considered effeminate. So what's that about? Comfort?

For the sake of modesty in this forum, I won't quote what a study found about men's eyes when a woman wears pants.
philosopher
@Ave Crux I agree, but in the medieval period, men wore leggings or tights albeit with a tunic that covered the mid section, and women wore dresses. It doesn't take a study for a man to know what happens to his eyes when women are wearing pants or leggings but we could, also, say that about some dresses.
Ave Crux
Yes, and notice what the men's tunic does cover, coming as it did to mid-thigh: a lot more than modern-day pants. And for battle and riding horses, not much male modesty was sacrificed for this necessity.

pmfji
No. Some of us think 'Heck, these things are SO much more practical and comfortable than a skirt or dress'.

Honestly, I think a majority of Western women have ditched the jeans for leggings. They must be more comfortable albeit it makes one cringe when un-athletic women wear them.

Interestingly, in the Middle Ages only men wore them.
