During Old Testament times, as well as what is Dogmatically stated for the Catholic Church, only the Practicing High Priest was able to approach God, TREMBLING at his own unworthiness. A rope tied to his ankle incase he was struck dead in the unenterable Holy of Holies and a fellow Priest needed to pull him out rather than offend God by entering the Holy of Holies unworthily Himself.

I suggest you read Romans 1 from verse 21 to the end. It isn't in the Novus Ordo Missal naturally, but it's in the Bible along with many similar passages edited out of the modern Missal.
