Vatican Cracks Down on Old Rite Carmelites And Their Chaplains

The Vatican removed Father Maximilian Dean, a former Franciscan Friar of the Immaculate, as chaplain of the Old Rite Carmelites of Fairfield, Pennsylvania, he told LifeSiteNews.com (April 11).

Monsignore Timothy Thorburn, the chaplain for 30 years in their mother community, the Carmelites in Valparaiso, Nebraska, was also eliminated.

The dismissals come after a September Visitation whose report - according to Dean - is “totally unjust and full of an agenda.” The nuns were told that they will never receive a dispensation from having to incorporate into some federation (Cor Orans).

If they want to follow St. Teresa of Ávila and her constitutions "they are basically not true children of the [Novus Ordo] Church,” the Vatican told them.

Being rejected by the vat II sect is a blessing and a confirmation of faith.

Could see this coming.....heartbreaking. I understand they have vowed to resist. May God assist them.

Yes. God assist them. I know the faithful will!!!

This may be the fatal stroke for this particular Vatican hierarchy. Robespierre followed the Carmelite Martyrs of Compiegne to the guillotine 11 days later.

I certainly hope so. For all the evil Pope Francis and his people have done, I think in very large portions of the Catholic world, there will be great cheers and applause when the Vatican some day, probably very soon, announces that "Our Holy Father, Francis, has returned to the House of the Father". And there will be a huge schism in the Catholic Church if the cardinals dare to pick another "Francis …More

These Carmelite nuns are heroes. They should reject the Vatican. Follow the SSPX (which already has 5 Carmels).

"Personally, I'd follow the schismatics." That gets you a latae sententiae excommunication under Canon Law 1364 §1.
Cassandra Laments
If anyone is referring to the SSPX as schismatics, that is false. They are not in schism and never have been; just continuing to be Catholics as our ancestors were.

" That gets you a latae sententiae excommunication under Canon Law 1364 §1." I SO afraid 😴 I would suffer that proudly, as Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre and the SSPX did for almost 50 years before it was lifted by the great Benedict XVI. @Cassandra Laments Amen! And THAT is the whole point, and always has been. Further, Archbishop Lefebvre requested a canonical trial to review his case and was refused.

@Cassandra Laments Amen! And THAT is the whole point, and always has been. Further, Archbishop Lefebvre requested a canonical trial to review his case and was refused.

That's not schism...that's bad faith stonewalling of Tradition; an unjust refusal to grant Archbishop Lefebvre's request for a juridically-based hearing which made clear his recognition of the Church's authority; and deliberate destruction of our Patrimony.

Archbishop Lefebvre also acted from well-justified conviction of necessity, which Canon Law specifies suspends any penalty, after continuing discussions with Rome for years; the entire SSPX has now been granted faculties throughout the entire Church -- making it clear they are not in schism for those who doubted; and the so-called "excommunications"were considered null and void by many renowned Canon Lawyers for the reasons mentioned above.

The Pope can't override Canon law (although he did) -- that's what the Courts are for: to review the law and determine if a penalty applies. Rome refused to do this. Just like our President cannot override law (although he does) -- that's what the Courts are for: to check an abuse of power and prevent injustice, which certainly occurred.

Furthermore -- simply put -- well-justified disobedience while the Church is in a state of emergency (recall that only SSPX had preserved Tradition at the time, while the rest of the Church had jettisoned it wholesale, and exchanged it for sacrilege, guitar, rock and clown Masses, and other unspeakable abuses) is not a schismatic act. Countless examples of the crisis at that time which prompted his actions are chronicled in Archbishop Lefebvre's Open Letter to Confused Catholics.

I remember the words of an apostolic commissar (a sister in civil clothes) who was sent by Pope Francis to inspect (with the aim to destroy it) a convent of Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate in Italy some years ago:
- You are too much cloistered
- You pray too much
- You do too much penance
