Pope Francis sent a video message to a big gathering of Spanish religious meeting in Madrid, Spain, on April 5-8.
He had nothing better to say than to ask them not to engage in missionary activity, what he calls with the anti-Church term “proselytise.”
Francis said that the religious should "only open ways that the Lord himself can speak". He did not elaborate what he meant by this abstract formulation.
Francis added that the religious must avoid electoral or advertising campaigns because “God’s call does not work through marketing models”.
Nevertheless, the Vatican is running at the moment in Rome an advertising campaign featuring Pope Francis for their [failed] media project Vatican News.
Also, the Italian Bishops whose head Francis is, run regularly big advertising campaigns to raise more money.
