Celebrating Mass: Tuesday morning, former Pope Benedict XVI concelebrated a Mass with Augustinian Fr Gioele Schiavella on the occasion of his 70th priestly anniversary. Schiavella is a former parish-priest of Sant’Anna in Vaticano, the official parish in the Vatican. The Mass was celebrated in presence of other Augustinians in the private chapel of the monastery Mater Ecclesiae where Benedict XVI lives. The former pope celebrated the Mass versus ad Deum.

Highest Number: The Priestly Society of Saint Pius X has exceeded the number of 600 priests according to Panorama Católico Internacional. This is the highest number of priests in the whole of its existence. The American vocations are mainly for the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

Deeply Troubled: The Boy Scouts of America voted Monday to lift the ban on openly gay adults within the organization. They included, however, an exemption for church-sponsored troops. David French comments on his blog: “If the church-sponsored troops pull out of scouting, the Boy Scouts of America would collapse.” The Mormons issued a statement saying that they were “deeply troubled” by the homosex decision and that its “century-long association with Scouting will need to be examined.”
