You're cherry picking scripture. They didn't pray to God saying they were happy He made them better than everyone else. They are professing a belief in the Real Presence that can only be displayed in the action of receiving Our Blessed Lord reverently as actions speak louder than words. Less particles fall off the host that way & less chance of someone palming the Eucharist to profane Our Lord.

It is all about “I”.
At least with the Pharisee, it was actually about commandments of God. The Church hasn’t mandated reception on the tongue only.
